FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of hair does Stina Hair Co. use?

We offer 100% Remy human hair, meaning the cuticles remain aligned in the same direction. This helps minimize tangling, maintains softness, and extends the lifespan of your extensions with proper care.

How long do your hair extensions last?

With proper care, our extensions can last 9–12 months or longer, depending on installation method, daily maintenance, heat styling, and product use.

Can I color or tone the extensions?

Yes. Because our extensions are 100% human hair, they can be professionally toned or darkened. We recommend having all coloring performed by a licensed stylist. We do not recommend bleaching the extensions, as this can shorten their lifespan and affect hair integrity.

Can I use heat styling tools?

Absolutely. Our extensions can be curled, straightened, and blow-dried just like natural hair. Always use a heat protectant and avoid excessive temperatures to preserve the hair.

Can I swim or work out with hair extensions?

Yes. We recommend securing your hair in a braid or ponytail during exercise and swimming. Rinse your hair after exposure to chlorine or saltwater and follow with a moisturizing conditioner.

How often should extension hair be washed?

Wash only when needed using sulfate-free, extension-safe shampoo and conditioner. Overwashing can dry the hair and reduce longevity.

Why does extension hair feel different after washing?

Unlike natural hair, extensions do not receive natural oils from your scalp. Regular deep conditioning and quality leave-in products help maintain softness and shine.

Will the extensions damage my natural hair?

When professionally installed, properly maintained, and removed correctly, hair extensions should not damage healthy natural hair.

How often should extensions be moved up?

  • Tape-Ins: Every 6–8 weeks
  • Hand-Tied Wefts: Every 6–10 weeks
  • Machine Wefts: Every 6–10 weeks
  • I-Tips & K-Tips: Typically 3–5 months depending on growth and maintenance

Your stylist will recommend the best maintenance schedule based on your hair growth.

How many packs will I need?

For Volume:
• 1–2 packs

For a Natural Full Install:
• 2–3 packs

For Maximum Fullness or Thick Hair:
• 3–4+ packs

Your stylist can recommend the ideal amount based on your hair density and desired result.

Will the color match my hair?

Our shades are professionally blended for a natural finish. If you're unsure, contact us with photos taken in natural lighting, and we'll gladly help you find your best match.

Can extensions be reused?

Yes. Tape-ins, hand-tied wefts, and machine wefts are reusable with proper maintenance. Keratin tips cannot be reapplied once removed.

Do extensions shed?

Minimal shedding is normal. Excessive shedding is often caused by cutting the weft, improper brushing, or incorrect installation.

Why do extensions tangle?

Tangling is usually caused by dryness, sleeping with wet hair, product buildup, friction, or improper maintenance. Daily brushing and hydration greatly reduce tangling.

Can I sleep with wet extensions?

No. Always dry your extensions before bed and loosely braid or tie your hair to prevent tangling and matting.

What brush should I use?

Use an extension-safe brush or a wide-tooth comb. Start brushing from the ends and gradually work upward while supporting the attachment area.

Which products should I avoid?

Avoid products containing:

  • Sulfates
  • High alcohol content
  • Heavy protein overload
  • Oils directly on tape tabs or bonds

These ingredients can weaken adhesives, dry the hair, or shorten extension lifespan.

Do I need special shampoo?

We recommend sulfate-free, moisturizing products that are safe for color-treated and extension hair.

Can I wear sunscreen with extensions?

Yes, but avoid spray sunscreens containing avobenzone, as they may discolor lighter shades.

Why are my blonde extensions becoming brassy?

Minerals in hard water, chlorine, heat, UV exposure, and product buildup can contribute to brassiness. A professional purple shampoo or toner can help maintain cool blonde tones.

What is Remy hair?

Remy hair means every strand's cuticle is aligned in the same direction from root to tip. This creates softer, smoother hair that resists tangling and lasts significantly longer than non-Remy hair.

Do you offer professional-quality hair?

Yes. Our extensions are selected to meet salon-quality standards for softness, longevity, and consistent performance, making them suitable for both licensed stylists and everyday wear.

What if I'm not sure which method is right for me?

Our team is happy to help. Contact us with photos of your current hair and your desired result, and we'll recommend the best extension method and color match for your goals.
